Petra Valouchova, MPT, Ph.D

Petra holds a Master’s degree from the Department of Physical Therapy at Palacky University in Olomouc, awarded in 1998. She earned her Ph.D. in Kinanthropology with a specialization in Biomechanics in 2001, and her primary research interests include biomechanics and gait kinematics.

Since 2002, Petra has been employed as a physical therapist at the Rehabilitation and Sport Medicine Department of Motol University Hospital in Prague. She also serves as an instructor at Charles University Medical School, delivering lectures on Sports Medicine, Biomechanics, the Bobath Concept, and Vojta Reflex Locomotion. Her expertise extends to surface electromyography assessment, and she has contributed multiple publications on surface EMG.

Since October 2011, Petra has served as Chief Physiotherapist at the Centre of Movement Medicine in Prague (http://www.cpmpk.cz), one of two private clinics operated by Professor Kolář. Since 2018, she has managed both physical therapy departments. Petra is certified in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), Vojta Reflex Locomotion, Mobilization and Soft Tissue Techniques according to Lewit, the Bobath Method for adults, Stecco Fascia Manipulation, and Dry Needling DGSA. Additionally, she has completed training in Neurodynamics according to Butler, the Barral Institute Method of Visceral Manipulation, and the Mulligan Concept.

As an expert in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, Petra is a certified Instructor in Developmental Kinesiology and has been instructing DNS courses since 2002. Her professional focus within DNS includes sports medicine, running athletes, paediatrics, junior athletes, and foot disorders.

Petra achieved disFncFon as a fitness step team world champion in 2003 and 2004, and as the European champion in 2004. She currently resides near Prague, Czech Republic, with her husband, daughter, and son.

Dr. Gasparin was a lead international instructor with the Motion Palpation Institute (MPI) from 1997-2000. He is a fully certified level 1 and 2 practitioner in Active Release Techniques (ART) as well as Nerve Entrapment and Biomechanics. He is also level 1 and 2 certified in Stecco Facial Manipulation© (FM). Additionally, he has completed courses in Neurodynamics according to Shacklock, Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) and Level 1 Medical Provider for the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI). Dr. Gasparin has written several articles about Neuromuscular Stabilization, and his YouTube channel has worldwide subscribers.

For four successive years, he worked as a primary care provider for Ironman at the Kona, Hawaii World Championships. Dr. Gasparin is certified in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization by the Prague School of Rehabilitation as an Exercise Trainer, Clinical Practitioner and Paediatric Specialist.
Dr. Gasparin has been in private practice since 1995, utilizing an eclectic approach toward patient evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation.

The cornerstone of his practice is based on the philosophies and principles taught by DNS according to Kolar and the Prague School of Rehabilitation.

DNS Foot and Gait Objectives

Course Objectives (Foot and Ankle):

  1. Developmental aspects & foot formation, influence of the CNS function on foot structural maturation
  2. Foot biomechanics from the developmental perspective: stepping forward, supporting function, and foot function during the gait cycle
  3. Review of common foot dysfunction and deformities
  4. Foot and ankle functional evaluation from a developmental perspective
  5. Functional foot centration from the developmental perspective
  6. DNS active exercise positions to centrate the foot and to coordinate muscles in the pelvic, lower extremity and foot regions
  7. Mobilization, relaxation and soft tissue techniques according to Lewit to normalize foot function
  8. Foot awareness assessment and treatment (foot cortical representation training)
  9. Typical chain reactions and types of musculoskeletal dysfunction resulting from foot dysfunction
  10. Self-treatment techniques for foot dysfunction

Course Objectives (Gait):

  1. Understanding the role of early postural development and gait development principles.
  2. Review postural stabilization and the role the diaphragm and respiration play in this essential attribute of function.
  3. Gait cycle: Inter-muscular activity, developmental kinesiology and the different phases of gait.
  4. Overview of common pathologies associated with the gait cycle.
  5. Learn how to use gait analysis as a gateway to the patient’s overall function. Attendees of this course should expect to be able to identify proper functional tests to verify observational findings in the gait cycle.
  6. Identify appropriate functional tests to verify gait cycle observational findings.
  7. Specific developmental exercises to address common functional and structural pathologies associated with the gait cycle.
